Young detective Park Sun Woo and Seo Do-Cheol, a veteran of the Violent Crimes Investigation Division team, pursue a serial killer who will shake their world. Follows Veteran (2015). Veteran is an action comedy that pits veteran detective Seo Do-cheol against young, arrogant chaebol heir Jo Tae-oh, who is involved in various criminal activities. The film is full of fast-paced action scenes, but what makes it stand out is its humor and the clever way it handles social commentary on the corruption of the rich. Hwang Jung-min’s portrayal of the tireless detective is fantastic, bringing both intensity and humor to the role. The fight and chase scenes are energetic and captivate the audience. What makes Veteran particularly entertaining is the tension between Seo and Jo. While Seo represents justice and sass, Jo embodies the entitled, untouchable elite who thinks they can get away with anything. The film subtly criticizes the power imbalance in society, yet is still a thrill ride full of great fight choreography. The combination of action and moral message makes it one of the standout Korean action films of the decade.
