How Morrowind works

To begin with, or rather to understand the essence of what is happening, I will have to plunge you into the very abyss of the history of Morrowind. But don’t worry, it won’t be as boring as history lessons.

Aurbis is the name of the place where absolutely everything is located, including the so-called Nirn – where the events of the games from The Elder Scrolls series take place, and in Aurbis there is also a Sovongard, which the Nords so want to get into. Etherius, where divine beings live, and of course, the plane of Oblivion.

But we are interested in a place called Tamriel, in turn, this is one of the continents of the planet Nirn. Also – this is the name of the Empire, which was before the Oblivion Crisis, (those who played Oblivion should understand what it is). Before the Oblivion Crisis, the Empire occupied the entire territory of this continent

And Morrowind is a province of Tamriel in the Elder Scrolls universe. Located on this very continent. One conclusion follows from this, that the territory of Morrowind once did not belong to the Empire. But we will return to this point a little later, but for now we need to understand who our potential economic neighbors are, with whom we can trade and do business, and who are, at the same time, our enemies.

Morrowind borders Skyrim to the west, Cyrodiil to the southwest, and Black Marsh to the south. From the north and east the coast of the province is washed by the seas

The province itself consists of the mainland (separated from the rest of the mainland by mountains) and a huge volcanic island called Vvardenfell, separated from the mainland by the Inland Sea, and small islands in the north and northeast of the province.

The game takes place exactly on the territory of Vvardenfell, this is a very important note, because the standard of living of citizens in the territory of volcanic activity will be many times worse than those who live outside it. Firstly, because a very large part of Vvardenfell is not suitable for life, much less for agriculture, which should affect the prices and needs of the inhabitants.

And if you also consider that in the middle of the island, where the volcano is located, called the red mountain, there is an evil that terrorizes the inhabitants with pestilence and monsters, it certainly cannot be called a good place to relax.

Now that we have at least a little idea about the geography of Morrowind, I want to say a few words about its history, about those times when the Empire had not yet claimed its rights to this land.

As a rule, such places are colonized and the earliest local civilization, about which there is written evidence, belonged to the Dwemer, one of the elven races (these are those guys who mastered science well and did not really like to worship the gods) they colonized Vvardenfell and the northern parts of the mainland.

But their loneliness was not long in coming..

Soon, another elven clan comes to the same land – the Chimers (the ancestors of modern Dunmer, dark elves with red eyes, I will also briefly tell you how they became like this). The Chimer (also known as the "changed people", "people of the north" or the people of the Velotha) are a race of elves who went into voluntary exile from their home island led by the prophet Veloth, and they left due to persecution for worshiping the Daedric princes and supporting the ideas of Lorkhan. Lorkhan is the so-called "Dead God". He was punished by the other Aedra for forcing them to create Nirn. In the place where the other gods threw his Heart, the Red Mountain volcano appeared, which is located in the center of Vvardenfell. Lorkhan, sometimes called the god of mortals

But who are the Aedra and Daedra, in short, these are gods, the Aedra are often good deities, and the Daedra are more like demons, but there are exceptions, this is a very broad topic that is worth talking about separately, but let’s return to our Elves.

The Chimers, like the Dwemer, were descendants of the Aldmeri (the so-called ancestors of all elves). The Chimers came from the west through all of Tamriel for the prophet Veloth. They soon abandoned their nomadic life and split into groups now known as the Great Houses of Morrowind – local political groups.

Territorial disputes determined the first contacts between the two groups, between the Chimer and the Dwemer. The battles were fueled by the conflicting religious views of the two cultures. While the Dwemer were an agnostic people who needed a compelling reason to believe, the Chimer were zealous Daedra worshipers who saw the Dwemer’s lack of religiosity as an insult to their gods.

But do not forget that all peoples wanted to expand their territory and the elves are not the only inhabitants of Tamriel.

Only with the invasion of the Nords, from Skyrim, were these two groups able to achieve peace. An alliance led by Nerevar Indoril, on the Chimer side, and Dumac, king of the Dwemer, successfully achieved its goal of driving the Nords out of the country, and as a result, the First Council was formed. However, the cultural gap between the two groups was too great for lasting peace.

War soon began, the War of the First Council reached its climax at the Dwemer fortress of Btuangtuv on Red Mountain, although different sources describe the last hours of this war differently. It is known that Nerevar before the Chimer was killed during the battle or after, and this point gives rise to many speculations. King Dumac and the entire Dwemer people disappeared, but the exact reasons for their disappearance are still a matter of debate. At the same time, the Chimers did not remain unchanged after the battle of Red Mountain: their skin turned gray and their eyes became fiery red. Henceforth, they became known as the Dunmer of Morrowind.

Perhaps the most important consequence of the Battle of Red Mountain was the changes that occurred in Nerevar’s closest advisors, which we will return to later.

I will tell you a more detailed story of the Battle of Red Mountain a little later.

But the result of this battle was that the Dwemer disappeared, and the leader of the Chimer, Nerevar Indoril died. All power passed to the great houses of Morrowind.

At the behest of evil fate, Morrowind did not become an independent state, as the Dunmer wanted.

The troops of the Imperial Legion moved to the northeastern borders of Cyrodiil and the invasion of Morrowind, prepared in Skyrim, began.

The "leaders" of Morrowind – House Indoril and the Temple of Trebunal offered to fight to the death. House Redoran and House Dres sided with Indoril, while House Telvanni remained neutral, despite their traditional hostility to any outsiders. House Hlaalu (it should be noted, having correctly assessed the situation) was the first to express a desire for negotiations.

I briefly mentioned the great houses of Morrowind, but what is the Tribunal Temple? For now, remember that this is another control.

Against the Imperial Legion, Morrowind had a pitiful militia force, supplemented by a few companies of Redoran mercenaries, as well as elite squads of nobles. Their situation was further aggravated by disagreements between the Great Houses. Redoran, being geographically closest to the border of Morrowind, essentially found itself alone against the entire might of the Empire.

The situation changed radically when Vivec, one of the close associates of that very leader Nerevar, personally appeared in his city and announced the conclusion of an agreement with the emperor, according to the new agreement Morrowind received the status of a province of the Empire, but the Empire guaranteed “all rights of faith and self-government”. And Emperor Tiber Septim received the Numidium for his use, this is a giant golem of Dwemer origin, which was very useful to him when conquering the rest of Tamriel.

The agreement was greeted with awkward silence by the shocked temple hierarchy, whose advice was clearly not sought. House Indoril, with the moral support of House Dres, vowed to fight to the last, while House Redoran, grateful for the threat of superior forces being driven away from their borders, allied with House Hlaalu and supported the treaty. House Telvanni, seeing which way the wind was blowing, sided with Hlaal and also signed agreements.

The intransigence of the House of Indoril only contributed to the loss of its influence in favor of the House of Hlaau, whose authority has increased incredibly. House Dres also lost some influence to Hlaau.

Morrowind’s recent history has been plagued by terrible disasters, including the fall of the moon Baar Dau, the explosion of the Red Mountain volcano, earthquakes, and tsunamis. This period was called the "Red Year".

Having learned the History of Morrowind and its geographical location, it remains to determine the political and economic system of society and what life is like for ordinary people there.

The demographic situation in Morrowind is approximately as follows: more than 50% are the Dunmer race, the indigenous inhabitants of Morrowind, the remaining races are divided approximately equally, 5% each

This means that there are still people from other parts of the world who would like to settle down in such a place and where is the best place for them to buy a house, they can rent a room in Balmora and enter trade, or maybe the best option is to open their own farm or even a mine?

Morrowind is not a very hospitable place. And if you consider that the main character arrived generally as a prisoner who was sent to an unknown place and for an unknown reason, in the future it is worth thinking about what is best to do.

Suppose we have a choice of who you will introduce yourself to be, maybe you are a Dunmer or a Nord in general, of course it’s up to you to decide if you are given such a choice.

Taking a quick look at the province of Morrowind, we can say the following:.

— Predominance of the rural population.
— Poor development of extractive industries.
— Minor industrial development.

It suggests that we are arriving in an agrarian society, this means that the largest contribution to the cost of material goods should be made by the cost of resources produced in agriculture, but this is not the case, the largest contribution is made by the slave trade, then you will understand why.

But don’t rush to final conclusions, Morrowind has something that we don’t have, it’s magic. With the help of spells you can be healed from diseases, as a result of which there is no need for expensive hospitals.

Transportation and transportation of equipment can generally be carried out using levitation spells. Then why create mechanized machines for transporting cargo?? That’s right, there’s no need. And if you remember that you can teleport with the help of magic, a reasonable question arises: why are magicians not involved in resource extraction, and the main workforce of the Morrowind mines consists of ordinary slaves??

Although the Empire is famous for abolishing slavery, Morrowind seems to have not been affected by this; it makes very good use of slave labor, on plantations, on farms and of course in mines. So if you are a Khajiit, stay away from these establishments, otherwise you will inadvertently be forced to work for food, or maybe even worse..

Another interesting fact is that necromancy is also prohibited in the Empire and is prosecuted by law, but here’s a problem: among the indigenous inhabitants of Morrowind it is considered quite normal that they call upon spirits, skeletons and other undead to help them. As a result, we have a province of the Empire, where slavery and necromancy are not prohibited, power and self-government remained with the great houses, which can be indicated by such a conclusion? Yes, only about one thing, the Empire pursues completely different goals, it doesn’t matter to them by what means the province will generate income, the main thing is that it will be useful.

The territory of Vvardenfell may be deprived of fertile lands, but not minerals.

The Eastern Imperial Company operates on the territory of Vanderfell – it is a monopoly commercial entity. I would like to note that this organization has commercial status, in other words, it does not belong to the Empire, but this is all a distraction.

Because the organization receives numerous privileges from the Emperor, and the board of directors is appointed by the Emperor himself.

The company has the exclusive right to trade: ebony, pepper, glass, Dwemer artifacts. The company also sets tariffs and regulates the Import and export of other goods, both ordinary and exotic, such as: kwama eggs, swamp reeds, salted rice and Telvania bug musk (this is perfume, if anything).

Although ebony mines belong to the great houses of Morrowind, for example, the mine under the city of Caldera belongs to House Hlaalu, but this does not give them the right to quietly trade this material. Trade in ebony is carried out only through the eastern imperial company, which means whose House offers the best price for the goods, it will deal with. All this affects the political and economic situation within the province, and their own people begin to quarrel with their relatives..

For example, House Redoran acts directly and openly, but cannot do anything about the intrigues of House Hlaalu, which is slowly gaining ascendancy. The Redorans claim that the Caldera has traditionally been considered the territory of their House, and therefore the concession for resource extraction should belong to them.

Most likely, the Empire benefits from this situation, because it is convenient to manipulate and impose its rules on the Dunmer when their society is fragmented. If Morrowind unites as one, the Emperor will have to take their opinions into account, he cannot afford that.

But the technical component of mining leaves much to be desired, it seems that there is about to be a leap in the development of society, if not in industrial terms, then at least in magical terms, well, until this happens, we will be content with what we have.

When you arrive in Morrowind, let’s say that you are also a former prisoner, born on a certain day from unknown parents, and the emperor granted you freedom, we have a chance to complete a couple of assignments, for which they will give us some money, with which we will buy ourselves equipment and will be able to fend for ourselves, now we can handle a couple of rats 🙂

It will be interesting to look at the consumer basket, but which one??

Nothing is known about the food basket, but it is possible to create a food basket with equipment.

Let’s just make one small reservation, I suggest you be honest with yourself. None of you will put on heavy armor and go conquer Morrowind in it, they are damn heavy, slow, and most importantly, you don’t have a home, you will have to carry all your junk on yourself.

So heavy armor will not be included in the consumer basket. Therefore, in the end, we will analyze the basket with light armor, since they are more affordable than others, we will consider them as a subsistence minimum, and it is also worth considering that you can do without them, no one forbids you to wear a shirt and pants..

With a quick glance you can get the following picture:.

From which we can conclude https://bass-win-casino.uk/withdrawal/ that a player must earn at least 3,500 thousand gold per month.

Is it a lot or a little, is it enough for a simple worker to earn it?? To do this you need to find a job and ask how much I will get.

But before you get a job, it’s still worth looking at the economic management system and working conditions. We don’t want to fall into slavery.

Working conditions, as well as the standard of living, can be judged by considering the following questions.

Are physiological needs, safety needs and social needs fulfilled – communication, affection, joint activities?.

In other words, let’s look at Maslow’s pyramid of needs, but not all of it.

Physiological needs should more or less be fulfilled, although I could not make up a food basket, I also did not find a large number of farms on the territory of Vvardenfell, but still we can say that the Dunmer do not starve, most likely due to the import of goods from the mainland, thanks to the great houses of Morrowind, and joining almost any house, maybe even a stranger, in serving one of the great houses will bring some kind of profit, but. Perhaps you will become a guard, a plantation worker, a spy, a messenger… there will be work.

As a result, our prisoner has several development options: join one of the three remaining houses, or ignore them altogether. But I advise you to take someone’s side, because unlike our main character, you will not have a save and load button.

We will satisfy physiological needs like a thread, but what about safety??

In general, to be fair, it should be said that at least in every city there is a guard who keeps an eye on theft and order. But often great houses resort to killing their rivals, guided by the phrase, no thief is caught, but you can be sent to such a wet business, and if you crossed the path of another great house, perhaps there is already a reward on your head. So, I advise you to sleep with a dagger in your hand.

The crime level also leaves much to be desired, two organizations operate almost openly, one called the Thieves Guild, the other called Camonna Tong.

What happens is that there are two serious groups operating in Morrowind, and the government turns a blind eye to this, although theft should be prosecuted by law. This is explained by the fact that the Empire is unable to cope with crime and would rather think about how to cope with one organization than with a thousand unorganized thieves and murderers.

The problem is that the Camonna Tong organization, which is under attack, operates under the auspices of one of the advisers of the House of Hlaalu.

The situation is also aggravated by the presence of the Thieves Guild. Two thieves can never share one treasure chest. Camonna Tong is waging an open war against the Thieves Guild, another aggravating factor in the underworld is that Camonna Tong is waging a hidden war with an organization called Morag Tong, this is a guild of assassins, but not everything is so bad with it, it is quite legal, this guild has its own rules and laws, unlike the dark brotherhood, which do not disdain killing for profit, and in turn Morag Tong is fighting against Dark Brotherhood.

As a result, it turns out that the entire criminal sector is divided into 5 guilds, 2 of which are openly fighting for spheres of influence, and one of them is still trying to oust the guild of assassins.

So my advice to join one of the houses may have been premature..

But if you don’t join the great houses, how can you fulfill the need to belong in society?? It’s very simple, there are not only attack guilds and great houses of Morrowind. You can join the Fighters Guild, the Mages Guild, or maybe you like serving in a temple?

Unlike us, our main character is given another opportunity to join an organization called the Blades. These are elite shock, reconnaissance troops created by Emperor Tiber Septim. Although the Blades sometimes operate openly, most often their operations are carried out in secrecy, with Blade agents gathering information and maintaining peace in the empire while remaining silent and unknown. This is exactly what our main character will do.

Still, we can conclude that the inhabitants of Morrowind can feed themselves, protect themselves, and even foreigners can be recognized in society, all this has a beneficial effect on the development of the country, even considering that this is just a province of the empire, considering the political and economic system there is an interesting picture that the empire does not want to change.

So that you understand what we’re going to talk about now, let’s touch on the plot component of Morrowind. The main character is recruited to serve in secret reconnaissance units called Blades, created by the Emperor.

What kind of merit does it suddenly take for a former prisoner to become the Emperor’s elite?. Let’s go in order. One of the active agents of the blades gives the task to find out about the Nerevarine prophecy.

Let’s delve again into the history of Morrowind, when, after a short peace, the Chimer and Dwemer met again in the battle of the red mountain.

Everything was fine until one of Nerevar’s close associates, Dagoth Ur, reported that the Dwemer King, with the help of the high priest, had created tools of terrifying power, which were later called: Kagrenac’s tools. With their help, they could draw strength from the very heart of Lorkhan, as I said in the beginning, Lorkhan is the “Dead God”. He was punished by the other Aedra for forcing them to create Nirn. In the place where the other gods threw his Heart, the Red Mountain volcano appeared, which is located in the center of Vvanderfell.

When Nerevar learned this news, he personally wanted to communicate with the King of the Dwemer and find out if this was true. Their conversation ended with Dumac, the king of the Dwemer, saying, “that this is none of our business, who are you to meddle in the affairs of the Dwemer, and ordered the guards to escort Nerevar out of their chambers.”.

Nerevar, offended that the Dwemer did not honor the gods and desecrated them with their deeds, went to war against the Dwemer. As a result, in the depths of the red mountain, the King of the Dwemer was wounded, in a critical situation he used Kagrenac’s tools and in an instant all the Dwemer disappeared from all over Tamriel, what happened to them is still a big mystery, but in the place where the Dwemer king was, Kagrenac’s tools remained untouched.

Dagoth Ur immediately asked Nerevar to destroy them so that no one could use their power, but Nerevar could not resolve this issue on his own, he really valued his friends and advisers: Almalexia, Sotha Sil and Vivec, so he went to them with the question of what should be done. When he left, he asked Dagoth Ur to look after the instruments until he returned.

Close advisers of Nerevar did not approve of the ideas of Dagoth Ur, they suggested saving the tools so that they could bring the light and prosperity of Morrowind by force, and who knows if the disappearance of the Dwemer was not temporary – perhaps they were only transported to a distant dimension, from where they could one day return, bringing with them a threat to the security of Morrowind.

Although Nerevar expressed grave misgivings, he decided to follow the advice, but on one condition: that they all take a solemn oath before Azura that the tools would never be used in the unholy way in which the Dwemer intended to use them. Almalection, Sotha Sil and Vivec readily agreed and, by the will of Nerevar, took solemn oaths.

Then he and Nerevar returned to the depths of the Red Mountain and met with Dagoth Ur. Dagoth Ur refused to hand over the tools, saying that they were dangerous and should not be touched by anyone. He behaved strangely, insisting that he alone should be entrusted with the tools, after which one of the advisers began to think that the possession of these objects had somehow influenced him. They were sure that he had secretly learned about the power of the tools and wanted to get them for himself alone. Then Nerevar decided to take the tools by force. Nerevar was killed in this battle, or maybe after, his death is shrouded in many secrets.

According to some sources, Nerevar was mortally wounded by Dagoth Ur in the battle for the possession of Kagrenac’s tools, and before his death, Nerevar took an oath from his comrades that they would not use the artifacts, but they broke it by making themselves gods. And then Azura appeared and cursed the Chimera race, “turning their eyes into flames and their skin into dust,” making them dark elves – Dunmer.

According to another version, Nerevar took an oath from his advisers not to use artifacts, and they obeyed, but secretly plotted to kill him. Using poisoned tools, they killed Nerevar in the process of summoning Azura to him. Azura cursed Chimer and predicted that Nerevar would be reborn and set things right.

But it is known for sure that for several years they kept the oath given to Azura under Nerevar, but at that time Sotha Sil secretly studied the instruments and solved their riddle. In the end, Sotha Sil brought with him a vision of a new world and its harmony, justice and honor for the nobles, health and prosperity for the common people, as immortal patrons and mentors. Dedicated to creating this new world, they made a pilgrimage to the Red Mountain and were transformed by the power of Kagrenac’s tools.

And as soon as they completed the rituals and began to learn their new capabilities, the Daedric Lord Azura appeared before them and cursed them for breaking the oath given to Nerevar. Using the power of foresight, she foretold that her hero, Nerevar, true to his oath, would return to punish them for their treachery and ensure that never again could this unholy knowledge be used to mock the gods and oppose their will. But Sotha Sil told her: “The old gods are cruel and capricious, they are far from the fears and aspirations of mortals. Your age is gone. We are new gods, born in the flesh, familiar with the needs of our people and attentive to them. Deliver us from your threats and reproaches, spirit of fickleness. We are brave and full of strength and are not afraid of you.".

The result was that Nerevar’s trusted advisors, Almalexia, Sotha Sil and Vivec, gained enormous, even god-like, power. Another of his close friends, Dagoth ur, who was initially considered killed on Red Mountain, was later understood to have achieved the same power.
Almalexia, Sotha Sil and Vivec formed an organization called the Tribunal Temple, which ruled Morrowind.

The Azura prophecy was interpreted differently by everyone, but many agreed that a stranger, born of unknown parents, under the auspices of a certain star, would come to Morrowind and unite the scattered great houses, overthrow the tribunal and the arrogant elves who imagined themselves to be gods.

Naturally, such a prophecy did not suit the tribunal; all followers of the cult were outlaws. Because Nerevar’s prophecy said that he would unite the 3 great houses, House Hlaau, House Redoran and House Telvania, becoming their mentor and general. He will also unite the Ashlander tribes, these are the Dunmer who refused to accept the new state of affairs that Morrowind is a province of the empire. If the Great Houses could only secretly or in their thoughts express a positive opinion about Nerevar’s prophecy, then the Ashlanders said this directly and openly, so they left the cities and lived as outcasts around the red mountain, the territory of which was called Ashland.

Emperor Taibmer Septim was a very superstitious man, he knew about this prophecy and believed that the prisoner he freed could become a living absorption of Nerevar. Neither the tribunal, nor any of the great houses, had warm friendly relations with the empire.

The Emperor wanted to better fortify himself in this territory and the best way to do this was to have a living embodiment of Nerevar in his service. Because if the Dunmer find out that this is not another false incarnation, they will follow him, even to the most certain death.

The Emperor made a very smart, but also dangerous move, how does he know that Morrowind will not leave the empire under the reign of the incarnation of Nerevar, how does he know that the main character will remain faithful to the Order of Blades, how does he know what happened to the Mordvin without a tribunal, because Vivec and Almalexia maintained not only order and law, they restrained the Daedric princes from encroaching into Morrowind.

Now that you know the main chess pieces, let’s draw a diagram of the reign of Morrowind, and what place is given to Nerevar.

Morrowind was originally ruled by 6 six great houses, 5 of which were House Hlaau, Redoran, Telvanni, Dress, and House Indoril. Soon a tribunal appeared, which ranks higher in power than any other house, although the Tribunal does not directly rule the great houses, it is more like a legislative body.

Soon the Empire appears, the tribunal signs an agreement according to which Morrowind becomes a province of the Empire, although the great houses retained self-government, they become like vassals of the Emperor. And the houses of Dress and Indoril generally lost their influence in favor of Hlaalu, this is due to the fact that they did not want to submit to the empire, their struggle was not successful.

The prophecy points to the rebirth of Nerevar, General of the Chimer, now known as the Dunmer. Naturally, Nerevar is higher in power than the Great Houses of Morrowind and higher even than the Tribunal. That is why the Prophecy of Nerevar is considered outlawed, not one of the False Gods did not want to lose power in favor of a stranger.

Touching on the topic of governance, you were never interested in the question of why the highest authority, the Tribunal, is presented as a Temple. But why? Why shouldn’t one of the members of the tribunal become the Direct King of Morrowind, the explanation is obvious, maybe in our reality temples play a small economic role, in Morrowind everything is completely different.

There are known cases when the gods intervened in the affairs of people in difficult times and received artifacts that remained forever in the mortal world. Naturally, we want them, the Gods, to be in our everyday lives, so to speak, to help us in everything. That’s why people started building Temples. In connection with such popularity, priests of the highest ranks began to appear, they could pray to their deity for good or help, but the true nature of such contacts and blessings sent down is the subject of all sorts of speculation. For example, this way you can control entire cities, forcing people to believe in a certain religion, only because the deity will certainly help, and if the temple sends you to fight, then the gods will call it a holy war, and who are mortals to disobey the priests, who are led by God himself.

This is partly true, the gods really helped those who believed in them, from this we can draw an interesting conclusion that all gods are interested in being revered. It can even be assumed that the number of venerations may affect their status among other gods. But there is another interesting fact: there is evidence of the presence of spirits with the same ability of self-strengthening from veneration by mortals. Can such spirits rise to the level of god?? Or maybe these are the remnants of gods or goddesses who have lost all their worshipers and degraded to an earlier and lower form?

It is the presence of gods who directly communicate with people that makes Temples the highest governing body. Denial of the gods and the power of the temples can provoke a war, which is what I talked about at the beginning, when the Chimers and Dwemers were at enmity with each other only on the basis of religious views. But behind these glances there were not empty words.

The temple management system still could not resist the Empire, although it is very strange, the tribunal fought with the Daedric Princes and was able to prevail over them, but against the Empire, Morrowind turned out to be powerless, from this the conclusion suggests itself that the Empire has truly crushing forces. But I want to ask the question, what economic sense did the Empire get from Morrowind?? In Morrowind you can find criticism of the occupation of this province, which sounds like this:

“And even if we overlook the dubious motives and justifications for the hundreds of years of occupation of these two provinces, what economic or military benefit can we gain from Morrowind and Black Marsh??

Indeed, several Owners of Imperial Monopolies in these provinces benefit from the use of their resources. But does the Empire as a whole benefit?? Hardly, the huge bureaucratic machine of the Empire costs much more than can be collected in taxes and duties. The Empire has built outposts and vanguards throughout the land of Morrowind, which, if threatened, can begin military action, and the cost of creating and maintaining the Imperial Legion in outposts in the distant wastes of these provinces can somehow be justified only in the event of a direct military threat emanating from the east. But there is no such threat. No army in Morrowind or Black Marsh has ever attempted to threaten the safety of the Imperial provinces, let alone the safety of the Empire’s capital.

In fact, the threat to the Empire comes precisely from these inactive Imperial Legions, which taxpayers spend so much money on maintaining.

The military leaders of these legions, not even the name of the enemy within the borders of these provinces, may begin to look west. The troops are made up of veterans, they receive support from friends of the monopolists, thus they become an unpredictable political force that can play a role in the succession to the throne of the Empire.

If the occupation of Morrowind and Black Marsh was dictated by some idealistic motives, then perhaps some justification can be found for the Empire to shoulder this burden. But think of the shame the Empire endures by silently accepting the slavery practiced behind the scenes in Morrowind. Instead of using our legions to free the Khajiit and Argonians (beast-like races) enslaved by the dark elves, we pay our troops to DEFEND the unforgivable institution of slavery. In the ebony mines of Morrowind, overfed monopolists exploit poor slaves to make fabulous profits made possible by bribery and corruption.

Think of our colossal arrogance when we wanted to bring peace and enlightenment to the east. In fact, we brought our armies into lands that never threatened us. We only encouraged the most terrible and shameful institutions of Morrowind so that members of the Imperial Family and its friends could enrich themselves.

If we look at it impartially, then our occupation of the eastern provinces is absolutely immoral, strategically unjustified and economically ruinous.»

I don’t know the author of this book. But I completely agree with him. The only reason why the Empire is spending so much effort on Morrowind may be Emperor Tiber Septim’s blind faith in Nerevar’s prophecy. Maybe his thoughts are pure, and he wants Nerevar to free Morrowind from the empire itself and the evil that lives there.

Or maybe he is driven by greed and power, that Nerevar will become a Puppet in the hands of the Emperor. We will never know this.

But which monopolistic companies make a profit and what does the Empire as a whole lose due to such a management system??

Although no, let’s pose the question differently. What economic system is present in Morrowind and what should be changed for the well-being of the Empire or Morrowind.

To do this, it is worth understanding what economic systems there can be in Morrowind.

The first of them is Command and Administrative (planning, state, economics). Where all rights and resources are owned by the state.

The second type of economic system is the Market economy, a system that is based on the principles of free enterprise and competition. As far as you understand, there is almost no smell of this in Morrowind.

Well, the third type is the Mixed Economy, anything can be included here, in particular, considering Morrowind, we can say that the Empire supports a market economy within its country, there are commercial organizations that are not directly subordinate to the Empire, but as we know from the example of the Eastern Imperial Company, the empire itself plays a large role in the life of the organization, appointing a Board of Directors and providing certain benefits, such activities provoke the formation of Monopolies.

In fact, we get a huge bureaucratic machine with the formation of a bunch of monopolies, to which the Empire turns a blind eye, most likely this is due to the fact that management positions in such companies are occupied by corrupt appointees from the Empire itself.

Let’s look at an example of why this is bad, I want to note that I’m not saying that Monopolies are bad, I’m saying that corruption in any form is evil and here’s why.

In economic theory, there is a chapter on supply and demand and equilibrium points, I propose to understand this using the example of the resource economy of Morrowind.

First, let’s determine which resource is most important to the Empire from the Province. If you have played Morrowind even a little, you should understand that the land around the volcano is not suitable for growing agricultural products, and the climate there is not the best, there are constant ash storms due to the volcano, but there are plenty of minerals in the form of diamonds, ebony and raw glass.

Let’s draw a coordinate axis where horizontally we will have the amount of resources, and vertically its price. The classic demand line is depicted by a curve with a negative slope, this is due to the fact that the lower the price of a product, the more we are willing to buy it and, accordingly, vice versa, the higher the price, the less willing we will be to buy this product.

Next, we draw the Supply line, classically it is depicted by a curved line with an upward slope, this is explained by the fact that the higher the price of the product, the more the company is willing to spend effort on increasing production volume.

Now we combine both curves, we get the intersections of supply and demand, the point where the curves intersect is equilibrium, and all market players are satisfied. Being at this point is only possible in a pure market economy, but there is none in Morrowind.

Morrowind has a monopoly on the production and purchase of resources. And in fact, we are far from the equilibrium point, but where exactly will we be located??

To understand this, you need to answer the question: does demand create supply or supply creates demand?? Those of you who think that there is a definite answer here, I will disappoint you, both options are equal, you need to look at the policy of managing society. Morrowind is a province of the empire, all rights to the extraction of raw materials belong to the great houses, but the great houses do not get along well with each other, on the contrary, they interfere with stable production, there is slave labor, which does not greatly increase the volume of extracted raw materials, although it makes the extraction of resources less expensive.

As a result, we get that the Empire, with its policy, does not give companies a reason for good production, a small amount of resource extraction provokes low prices, in turn, the Empire is ready to buy for such prices much more than mining organizations have, a deficit is formed, we will also depict it on the graph, this area is a deficit, the Empire needs more than Morrowind offers.

In a market economy, prices and output would slowly approach the equilibrium price, but this does not happen, because of Corruption, the rich want to get richer, the poor, in turn, get poorer.

The best option to correct all this is to introduce a command economy, creating one governing body, one monopoly, artificially increasing prices, thereby making supply much higher than demand, the result will be an excess of resources, let’s depict it on the graph.

Now answer the question, which is better??

Many corrupt monopolies causing shortages.

Establishment of a pure market economy, when demand will equal supply.

Or a Command Economy that will create a surplus of resources.

Those who watch my videos should remember how I said in one of my videos that more is better than less.

The surplus will give us a safety net, because the Empire is in the process of conquering new territories, if a war suddenly breaks out, the demand line will move to the upper right corner, the overall level of demand will increase, and if the market economy in the Province were getting tired, we would instantly have a deficit, but with a command economy such a problem would not arise, we would always have a safety cushion in the video of a surplus of resources, especially since in the future it will always be possible to slightly reduce production output.

I would like to note that this strategy is applicable only to extractive resources, do not think that a surplus is always good, this is not the case, for example, a surplus in food products will only lead to losses.

I haven’t dealt with all the questions, I’ve just touched the tip of the iceberg, that underneath there’s a completely different question.

We’re watching your grammar, idiot.

Man, every time you start a barrel organ about how “everything is fine”, “everything is normal” for your eyes, because you yourself know damn where you went wrong.
So I came here and was about to praise that you abandoned the topic, which you don’t understand anything about, tell you about the structure of the world of scrolls and won’t drag in economics and your own gag, which, as we have repeatedly seen, you don’t know shit, but no, I won’t praise you, because as soon as I scrolled through your blog, and you’ve already squeezed economics out of you again, it’s not funny at all, dude, stop it.
With love, your biggest fan.

The number of errors in the text casts doubt on the veracity of the information.

Again, a mower, again another proof that when issuing, they either read through the line, or simply do not understand the question at all and give it at random to something where, at first glance, work has been done and a lot of “information” is given, the only pity is that this information is a complete gag, and the research itself, as before, is incorrect, pulling economics by the ears.
I don’t believe that there is not a person in the entire SG who has at least a basic understanding of how economics works and the possibility of applying laws to a gaming convention, which simply lacks the information necessary for such research. Do any of you even realize that PRACTICALLY any argument given here breaks down, it’s worth starting to ask even childish questions, that all this research consists of second-guessing and superimposing these second-guessing on Wikipedia articles without even a basic understanding of what was done?
You’ve already given the EXACT SAME BULLSHIT to Among Us, I came and explained why it’s bad, and now time passes and you again give the award to research that is collapsing at the embryonic stage. I’m just washing my hands of it, it’s obvious that blogs are read without the slightest thought before being published. If you don’t come and explain why what’s written is nonsense, then no one will even try to understand this issue. At least sometimes pretend that you don’t give a damn about this part of the site, where the mower goes either to nonsense, but large and detailed, or to lick the SG composition itself every month.
The post is not intended to offend or belittle anyone, but I would really like for at least some attention to be paid to the work, and not given out at random.

Notes. It feels like whoever wrote the article about lore knows very little:
— I think it was necessary to point out that most of the art is fan art. Other art from the official Legends game.
— The word race is written with one s. There are a lot of typos in the article.
— No one knows how the Dwemer ended up in Vvardenfell. They just existed there.
– The Chimer left the island because when they were Altmer they had a conflict with the Trinimac cult and the traditionalists due to the worship of Daedra. Lorkhan has nothing to do with it, Boethiah’s ideas were close to Lorkhan, so their connection is a theory. The Prophet Veloth challenged the hero-god Trinimac to a duel, but made Boethiah his champion. Boethiah was not alone during the battle, and while she distracted Trinimac Mephala stabbed him in the back and poisoned him, which is why he changed. Trinimac’s followers became Orcs, Boethiah’s followers became Chimers. And both were banished from Summerset Isle.
— The Dwemer are not agnostics. They knew about the existence of gods, but did not believe in them, and could mathematically prove that they do not exist, or even mock them by calling them into logical duels and refuting the divine meaning.
— The theory about the social and economic system would be good if it didn’t get into the weeds, confusing gaming mechanics with reality.
— Necromancy among the Dunmer is prohibited. But their magic involves voluntary spirits. The Phantom Limit is made from the bones of dead ancestors, during the ritual they are asked whether they want to help or not. The undead that a Dunmer character can summon is an ancestor spirit. Also, tombs and catacombs are protected by ancestor spirits.
—When the Morag Tong became stone?
— I don’t remember the Tribunal saying anything about the return of the Dwemer.
— What happened on the mountain and after this is one of the in-game theories. Because of the dragon’s breakthrough, a lot of things are mixed up there and there is no truth.
— According to the version for ordinary Chimers, they were cursed by Azura. But according to in-game actions, the use of tools for self-deification bound all the Dunmer and they were irradiated with the heart of Lorkhan. Azura also created a prophecy to find a puppet that will destroy those who betrayed her. After all, she is a Daedra of dawn and dusk, pride and pride.

I think you should stop using the “get it first” argument every time and start reading into what you are being criticized for.
I won’t reveal the question, because drawing an owl of the laws of the real world onto the globe of a gaming convention with its own conjectures does not make much sense and only shows the author’s lack of education in the chosen topic.

I have already pointed out mistakes in previous times, you have shown yourself to be insane, I will not waste time and nerves on you again, thank you, my goal is to point out the mistake to SG, not to you, all your blogs are mistakes, and TV is disgusting to me to the core, because communicating with you is like talking to a wall.

This is not a matter of taste, but a matter of understanding the issue as such. Over all your many years of blogs, you have not developed at all, as you wrote a fictional gag, that’s what you write. Bring any person with basic concepts of economics and he won’t read this crap after 1 thesis. The fact that you come to the conclusion that no one understands the subject of what is written and just points at “many beautiful letters” does not make you understand the topic or have developed. I don’t give a shit about your blogs and stream of consciousness, but I don’t give a shit about the blog culture of the site and the issuance of awards that popularize such nonsense.

Looks like a freshman’s essay. The topic is formulated incorrectly, in fact it doesn’t exist – “everything about everything”. Therefore, the presentation is appropriate – the author jumps from geography to religion, to history, to the consumer basket, to reflections on abstract topics – and so on in a circle. As a result, it is not entirely clear “who stood on whom”.

I propose changing the topic to “What was Morrowind about”, eliminating the unnecessary from the text, thoroughly subtracting the rest – in this format the material will be “appealing” to those who have not familiarized themselves with the classics at one time.

The number of errors in the text is depressing. Why try to stretch the real economy onto the very conditional economy of the game is a mystery.

I don’t understand why they can’t be called agnostics. An agnostic does not mean a denial of the gods; it would be more correct to say that they do not understand the belief in gods.

Considering that even the UESP says that they look like agnostics, then let you be right. It’s strange to me that those who can summon God and punch him in the face, and then block his powers, are called agnostics.

I made this conclusion when I went into the Dunmer tombs, in each tomb there are not only spirits, but also other undead. What is this? An oversight by the developers or errors in the game’s lore?

These are the undead ancestors. Almost like draugr.

There is a book about the Dwemer in Morrowind, the information was taken directly from game books.

This is the Dunmer version. According to general lore, the Dwemer were simply there, and no one knows when they even appeared.

I saw the picture. You are right. I forgot what was there.

Next time, indicate the authorship for each drawing, otherwise it smacks of unprofessionalism. Google to the rescue.

Writing comments is not moving bags)

Wow wow, attacking history lessons is harsh. No work of art will ever be cooler than what people did in real life. Such a conclusion can only be made by a person who doesn’t know anything or has simply had bad luck with teachers)

You read slowly) in S-lo-g-am. So what??)

Doesn’t interfere with perception at all))

Oh these commentators make no sense))

Write your blog with blackjack))

There are a lot of critics on stopgame, I read it and liked it, I love such lore calculations. Of course, we can say that there are typos and there is a part with economics that may seem controversial, but the overall “pleasantness” of the text is there and it is interesting!)

Agree. It hurts my eyes. But the text is interesting

Thank you! Very cool, I read it and it was as if I was there again, so many memories… They say we have already sailed to Morrowind. We will be released, that’s for sure))) keep it up!

Why not, no one forbids me to do this. Many people confuse the meaning of the word “economy” and you are no exception)
