The exploits of various guests and staff at a luxury resort throughout the week. HBO has renewed the series for a second season, although the series was supposed to be a limited one-season miniseries. The series is said to be an anthology-style series, with new characters introduced in each season. HBO did this before (to universal acclaim) with True Detective (2014). He appeared in Jeremy Vine: Episode #4.175 (2021). While the first seasons were great, this second season is as masterful as you could hope for. It starts off a little slowly, the first episode, but soon finds its feet and surprises me time and again, drawing me in in ways I’ve never quite experienced before. It’s like a review of every thought I’ve ever had about the resort, many of which I’ve long since forgotten. There’s plenty to enjoy with this score alone, but don’t worry, the flirtation with operatic heights of drama and beauty is quite appropriate given the Sicilian setting. Given the excellence of the acting and the apparent effortless storytelling, I’d say Mike White, this series’ creator, is some kind of unsung genius. The guy seems to know no bounds and has some of the sharpest detail I’ve ever seen.
